Although we held a State of the Science on Disability Statistics Conference and an Annual Disability Statistics Conference in 2022, we did not publish the Annual Disability Statistics Compendium or any related documents that year.
In 2022 we decided to coordinate the publication release and presentation dates. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted this decision. The pandemic delayed the release of US Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year PUMS files. The 5-year PUMS files were scheduled to be released in 2022, but because of the pandemic, they were released in 2023. The Annual Disability Statistics Collection was not finished until 2023 because certain ACS data files were not released until 2023.
Starting from 2023, the Collection documents will be published in the same year that the Annual Disability Statistics Conference is held. The Collection uses data collected two years before its documents are published. This means, the Collection that was presented at the 2023 Annual Disability Statistics Conference was published in 2023, although the data was collected in 2021. The 2024 Annual Disability Statistics Collection is presented at the 2024 Annual Disability Statistics Conference and uses the data published in 2022.
It was different in past years. In 2021, for example, the Annual Disability Statistics Collection used data published in 2020, and was presented at the 2022 Annual Disability Statistics Conference in March of 2022.
