Topic 1: Accessibility Considerations in Dissemination
This topic discusses the concepts of accessibility and universal design as it relates to conveying findings from disability statistics. It encourages participants to consider their audience and offers ideas on how to present accessibly. Our expectation is that this topic will inform you about how to consider accessibility.
Topic 2: Disability Statistics and Measuring Disparities
This topic introduces disability statistics through exposure to where to find and how to interpret disability statistics. You will learn about disability in the United States relating to geography, type of disability, and social and economic disparities between people with and without disabilities. Our expectation is that this topic provides ideas for potential research topics and context about the people with disabilities population.
Topic 3: Participation in General and Disability-Focused Programs
This topic will continue to build skills in finding and interpreting disability statistics through learning about participation in general and disability focused programs. We will go over who is eligible for these programs, what they are, and where to find their data. These programs include, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Medicare/Medicaid, and Veterans Administration Benefits (VA). Our expectation is that you will learn about various general and disability-related programs and what data they offer.
